This fall, on September 16, 2010, the Alzheimer Society's national fundraiser will be celebrating its 15th anniversary. This fundraiser is a fun, social event that is easy to organize. The Alzheimer's Coffee BreakŪ is just that - A Coffee BreakŪ.

Where and When can a Coffee BreakŪ be Held?

It can be held in your workplace, home, church, business, service club, community hall, or school. Choose a date - the national Coffee BreakŪ day is on Wednesday September 16, 2010, but if this date doesn't work for you, feel free to pick a different day through the months of September and October. The next part is easy - invite your friends over by phone or email, put up posters at work, or hang a notice on the community bulletin board asking people to stop by for coffee and make a donation to the Alzheimer Society. It's easy to host a Coffee BreakŪ

Coffee BreakŪ and your Computer

Email - it's so simple to contact a large number of people in minutes; you can use your email to invite people to your event and you can also encourage people to make a donation to your Coffee BreakŪ with online giving.

Online giving simply means that your friends, family and co-workers can make a pledge donation to you on their computer using their credit card. You can email friends and family near and faraway and you can customize your page to include a photo and message, and create a page to honour someone touched by this disease. If your friends cannot make your Coffee BreakŪ, they can still support your event.

Donna and Roger's love story

Donna and Roger MacDiarmid never thought that in their retirement years they would be faced with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. After Roger began experiencing lapses in memory, they thought he was experiencing the lasting effects of chemotherapy. In 2001, after the memory issues became more frequent, Roger was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Over the years, both Roger and Donna have shared their experiences to encourage others to seek treatment and to raise awareness. Now unable to tell his story in January 2010 at an Alzheimer Society press conference, Donna shared their story. In Donna's words, this is a love story. Please click below to hear their love story.
